Professional Experience Mike Cohen is a shareholder with Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt and co-chair of Schwabe's Intellectual Property Practice. He focuses his practice in the areas of patent, trademark and copyright licensing; counseling, prosecution, enforcement and litigation of trademark, trade dress, trade secret and copyright rights; technology transfer; IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions; internet/e-commerce counseling; domain name and website issues; and entertainment, media and advertising law, including negotiating and enforcing book, music and movie deals and royalty agreements. Prior to joining the Schwabe firm, Mr. Cohen was a law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
While attending law school, Mr. Cohen served as the 1995-1996 Executive Editor for the Oregon Law Review. He received the Maxine Lee Award for editorial excellence displayed as a staff member in 1995 and the Frederic R. Merrill Award for the best student article published in 1996. Professional & Community Activities Mr. Cohen is a member of a number of sections of the Oregon State Bar, including Patent and Trademark, Antitrust, Trade Regulation and Unfair Business Practices, and sits on the Executive Committee of the Computer & Internet Law Section. He is also a member of the International Trademark Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries, and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS), presenters of the Grammy Awards. Locally, Mr. Cohen sits on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Portland Rose Festival Association, is a member of the Oregon Media Production Association, and serves as a Project Leader for Hands on Portland, a volunteer service organization.
